| Product Ordering |
Setting the order in which products display in your store is easy. This capability already exists within X-Cart - it is just somewhat hidden. If you go to Categories (within Admin) you will see the listing of categories and the number of products within that category. This number is a hyper-link. If you click on it you will see the listing of products in that category. This is where you specify the position within the category.
The reason that it is in a separate location is that a product can belong to multiple categories, so there is not one single value for position for a single product. There are as many values as the categories that it belongs to.
The next setting that you should check is the default ordering setting located in "General Settings" >> "Appearance Options". The setting of "Select the order in which products should be displayed within a category:" should be set to Default. When this is done and when the POS (position) number is set within categories, that is the order that the products will initially display within the given category.
All the other sorting options will be available to the customer when viewing products even though the initial display of products is governed by the POS setting.
